Please note: if you ask us for quotes, we sell the details you give us to auto insurance companies, agents, brokers and firms that introduce drivers to them. You can opt out using our contact form.
What we collect automatically
Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser and device, page requested, time) for a limited period. We run Google Analytics 4 (GA4), which sets cookies and reads technical data — your IP address, browser and device, and the pages you view — to build aggregate traffic statistics and a rough location. We use it for measurement only. You can block cookies in your browser or use Google's opt-out add-on.
What we collect when you request quotes
The quote form asks for your name, email address, phone number, street address, city, state and ZIP code. It also asks for your date of birth, gender, marital status, whether you or a family member served in the military, your highest level of education, the credit score range you think applies (we don't check your credit) and whether you own or rent your home. Finally it asks about up to two vehicles (year, make, model, owned or leased), the coverage level you want, whether you're insured now, with whom and for how long, whether your licence is valid and whether you need an SR-22. Details of accidents, claims or tickets are not collected by the form.
Alongside the request we keep a record of your consent: the consent statement you saw, the date and time, your IP address, your browser, the page address and whether Global Privacy Control was enabled. The quote page uses TrustedForm from ActiveProspect, which records the page and your form interactions and produces a certificate confirming you consented.
What we collect through our contact form
Messages you send through our contact form, including privacy requests, are emailed to us, and a copy is kept together with the IP address and browser used.
How we use your information
We use it to pass your quote request to auto insurance companies so you can compare quotes; to keep evidence of consent; to prevent spam and abuse; to improve the site; and to answer requests and meet our legal obligations.
Who we sell or share it with
Quote requests, with their consent records, are sold to auto insurance companies, agents, brokers and firms that introduce drivers to them. Those companies may call, text or email you as your consent allows, and they handle your information under their own privacy policies. We don't sell to companies outside auto insurance.
We use service providers — our web host, our email provider, Google Analytics and ActiveProspect (TrustedForm) — to process information for us, and we may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights. We don't sell data about which articles you read.
Global Privacy Control
We respond to Global Privacy Control. A GPC signal from your browser is treated as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information collected from that browser. If you request quotes with GPC on, your request isn't sold, so it won't go to insurance companies.
Stopping calls and texts
Reply STOP to a text, tell a caller to stop, or choose "Stop contacting me" on our contact form. We'll stop contacting you and stop sending your details to new companies within 10 business days. Companies that already have your request keep separate do-not-contact lists, so contact them as well.
Your privacy rights
California residents, and residents of other states with consumer privacy laws, have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information; to know what we've collected, its sources, our purposes and the categories of companies it was sold or disclosed to; to have it deleted; to have it corrected; to appeal a decision on a request; and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. California residents can also ask once a year for information about personal information disclosed to other businesses for their direct marketing.
To use your rights, fill in our contact form. We carry out opt-outs within 10 business days and don't need to verify your identity for them. For other requests we verify you by matching your details with our records and may email you. We acknowledge requests within 10 business days and respond within 45 days, telling you if we need up to 45 more. An authorized agent can act for you with your written permission. When we delete your information, we notify the companies we sold it to.

Protected classification characteristics (age, gender, marital status, family military service): sold. Commercial information (vehicles, insurance history, coverage wanted): sold. Retention
Quote requests and consent records are kept for up to 5 years so consent can be shown. Privacy requests are kept for 24 months. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months at most. Server logs are kept for a limited time. Contact form messages are kept until we've dealt with them.
Security
We use encrypted connections and store quote requests on private servers with limited access. No system is 100% secure.

SmartInsure.org is intended for adult drivers. Only people aged 18 or over can request quotes, and we don't knowingly collect or sell information about anyone under 18.
